Trekking to Sept-Îles, Part 3

Sept-Îles! We finally made it! We got there much earlier than we usually do, so decided to go get some crab guédilles at the wharf. What is a guédille  you ask? My favourite “definition” comes from “cooksinfo.com“:

A Guédille is a hot dog bun (“pain à chien-chaud”) served in Québec with lots of fixings, but without the wiener. The bun is a soft rectangular roll. Sometimes the bun is heated, sometimes it is not. To toast the bun, you open it up without breaking it, butter both sides on the inside, and then griddle it buttered-side down in a hot frying pan.

At this particular “Casse-Croûte” (which is French for a light snack; most little kiosks/roadside stands which serve this kind of fast food are simply called Casse-Croûtes) on the wharf in Sept-Iles, the guédilles  are awesome. My favourite there is the one stuffed with crab. I didn’t think to take a photo (left my camera in the car), but found one on the Internet that will do.

After lunch we drove to hubby’s sister’s house and then later that evening, came back down to the boardwalk, which runs all along the shoreline of Sept-Îles.

Hubby’s happy to be back home…when hubby was a child, this was all sandy beach, extending right from their front yard all the way down to the water…they spent their entire summers playing here.  On the boardwalk in Sept-Îles, Quebec

The next day we visited Andre’s other sister, Alexina, and in keeping with long tradition, we all decided to go back to the Casse-Croûte for more Guédilles.

About Sharon

I love to write. I love to write myself into being right here right now. Writing releases something in me that needs wings, writing opens doors and windows that I often don't even realize are possible, writing helps me breathe out the dusty old, and to breathe in the new and possible. My hope is that maybe writing here in this blog will bring new light into these dusty old hallways and help me to clear out the thinking processes and mindsets that just don't work for me anymore. I seek to breathe new light and life into the nooks and crannies of a soul that has been feeling somewhat lost and frayed because of the last few patches of road I've had to travel.

It’s making me hungry too, especially remembering how delicious it all was! We enjoyed several dinner invitations and they all served seafood as well, so it was a wonderful gourmet experience everywhere we went!

Got to say, Sharon.. your Andre’s has a sweet smile,. .and I see that boyish youthful look in him.
Love the pedestrian walks along the water…I could walk miles along those.
It’s so much fun to see your family.

I love those pedestrian walks too…they’re everwhere along the St Lawrence River…so many towns and small cities have been smart and built pedestrian/bicycle boardwalks all along the riverfronts. I’ll be showing more later on on the other side of the river too.
