Trekking to Sept-Îles 2014 Part 1

We’ve been going to Sept-Îles almost every year for about 20 years now. Hubby was born and raised there, so we go back to visit family and friends every summer. Sept-Îles is in northern Quebec, on the north shore of the Gulf of St Lawrence. The drive from home to there is roughly 1088 km (676 miles), most of it through winding twisting mountain roads along the entire coast of the St Lawrence River. The drive is long, but breathtakingly beautiful.

In past years we made the trip in two legs, the first to Quebec City and then the second day we would normally drive straight through to Sept-Iles with only a few stops for meals and coffee breaks. This year (and last year) we decided to stop about half-way and enjoy a more leisurely drive, which translated into hubby stopping the car many times along the road so we could get out and explore and take some photos. It made the trip so much more enjoyable.

So here is a photo gallery of our stops along the way to Sept-Iles this year. This first segment takes us to a lovely little motel in Baie-Ste-Catherine overlooking the St. Lawrence River and then onto the ferry early the next morning to take us across the Saguenay River to Tadoussac.

Clicking on each picture will enlarge it.

This little family-owned pizzeria in Baie-Ste-Catherine served an amazing home-made pizza. We'll definitely be stopping here again!

About Sharon

I love to write. I love to write myself into being right here right now. Writing releases something in me that needs wings, writing opens doors and windows that I often don't even realize are possible, writing helps me breathe out the dusty old, and to breathe in the new and possible. My hope is that maybe writing here in this blog will bring new light into these dusty old hallways and help me to clear out the thinking processes and mindsets that just don't work for me anymore. I seek to breathe new light and life into the nooks and crannies of a soul that has been feeling somewhat lost and frayed because of the last few patches of road I've had to travel.

  1. Breathtaking pictures! So are there really 7 islands?

Yes, there really are, though they’re not easy to see from the shore of Sept-Iles itself. I think at least one of the islands is very small and uninhabitable. I’ll try to find and post a good aerial photo when I do the segment on Sept-Iles itself.
